Electric Mini Excavator Spotlight: Komatsu PC20E-6 Electric Model
New Komatsu PC20E-6 Electric Mini Excavator Offers Full Day of Work from a Single Charge
Japanese equipment giant Komatsu has introduced a new addition to its lineup of battery-powered construction equipment: the PC20E-6 electric mini excavator. This innovative machine, set to begin series production this October, promises a full day of work from a single charge.
The PC20E-6 is powered by a 23.2 kWh battery pack and equipped with an 11 kW (~15 hp), high-torque electric motor. Standard on the PC20E-6 is an on-board charging option for 230V and 3kW charging power. For those requiring faster charging, an optional external DC quick charger capable of 400V and 12 kW charging is available.
Weighing in at 2,190 kg, the PC20E-6 can operate for up to four hours continuously. According to data collected from more than 40,000 working days of comparably-sized diesel excavators, this operating time is well within the range of typical usage. In fact, in 90% of its global customers' mini excavator deployments, these vehicles are in active use for less than 3.5 hours per day.
Komatsu's design of the PC20E-6 was informed by real-world data, ensuring that the machine is tailored to meet the needs of its users. The company's commitment to innovation and sustainability is further demonstrated by the inclusion of the Komatsu E-Support customer program, which is free of charge with every market-ready electric mini excavator.
This program offers exclusive machine support, according to Emanuele Viel, Group Manager Utility at Komatsu Europe. It includes free scheduled maintenance, a 3-year/2,000-hour warranty on the machine, a 5-year/10,000-hour warranty on the electric driveline, and a claimed battery lifespan of 10 years.
The risk for the end customer is significantly reduced when exploring electrification advances in the industry, as stated by Viel. The PC20E-6 ships with this comprehensive maintenance program, providing peace of mind for those making the switch to electric construction equipment.
The PC20E-6 is just one example of Komatsu's commitment to sustainable and efficient construction solutions. As the world continues to move towards a more environmentally-conscious future, it's clear that Komatsu is at the forefront of this transition.
