Volvo Unveils the ES90: A Modern Electric Sedan Embracing Sustainability
Volvo Cars has taken a significant step forward in its commitment to sustainability and human-centric technology with the introduction of the Volvo ES90, a modern electric sedan that combines safety, technology, and versatility.
The ES90, unveiled in March, is the first Volvo car to feature 800-volt technology, enabling longer range and faster charging than any electric Volvo before. This cutting-edge technology marks a major milestone as Volvo Cars steps into a new era of safety, sustainability, and advanced technology.
Francesca Gamboni, chief industrial operations officer at Volvo Cars, expressed her excitement, stating that the fully electric ES90 represents a significant milestone for the company as it moves into a new era of safety, sustainability, and human-centric technology.
The ES90 is produced using climate-neutral energy in Volvo Cars' Chengdu plant, adhering to principles of a circular economy and responsible business practices. This commitment to sustainability is reflected throughout the ES90, making it one of the most environmentally-friendly Volvo cars to date. According to the company's Life Cycle Assessment report from July, the ES90 has one of the lowest carbon footprints of any Volvo car to date.
The ES90 offers a spacious interior and higher ground clearance typically associated with SUVs, blending the best of sedan, fastback, and SUV segments. It stands in a class of its own, embodying the Scandinavian design principles that Volvo Cars is known for, making it another Scandinavian design classic.
The ES90 is powered by next-generation core computing and developed using the company's Superset tech stack. It is designed to evolve over time through continuous software updates, ensuring that it remains at the forefront of technology.
Volvo Cars has started production of the new, fully electric Volvo ES90 for European markets. The first European markets to receive the ES90 will be supplied from China starting at the end of 2025, with prices already including EU tariffs. Some ES90 models for Europe might also be produced at Volvo's U.S. plant depending on future tariff and currency developments.
The ES90 is a fully electric car with zero tailpipe emissions, offering a refined driving experience with the adaptability of a fastback. It combines the refined elegance of a sedan with the adaptability of a fastback, providing a unique driving experience.
Volvo Cars has opened the ES90 order book across several European markets, with customer deliveries starting later this year. The ES90 will also become available soon in some key markets in Asia Pacific.
At its core, the ES90 is designed with Volvo's pioneering safety technology. This focus on safety is evident in every aspect of the ES90, ensuring that it provides a safe and secure driving experience for its occupants.
The Volvo ES90 is not just a car; it's a statement of intent from Volvo Cars. It represents a bold step forward in the company's commitment to sustainability, technology, and safety. With the ES90, Volvo Cars is redefining what it means to drive a modern electric sedan.
