Elena Yakovleva and Sergey Garmash collaborate once more on the Nikita Mikhalkov stage
The Masterskaya 12 Theater is currently hosting an enchanting production of "The Inspector" by Vladimir Pankov. This unique adaptation, which combines live music, sound imitations, and acrobatic performances, is a must-see for theater enthusiasts.
In the heart of the play, the bear sheds its bear "skin" and transforms into a distinctly human form, announcing the arrival of the real inspector. This dramatic scene, which is silent, is a testament to the skillful direction of Pankov.
The cast of "The Inspector" is a blend of talented actors from various troupes, including the Center for Drama and Directing, Lenkom, and Sovremennik. Sergey Garmash, in the role of the mayor, delivers a commanding performance, a role Pankov couldn't imagine the play without.
Elena Yakoleva, as Anna Andreyevna, the mayor's wife, adds a touch of drama with her character's constant reaching for the bottle. Elena Yakovenko, despite her heavy drinking portrayal, might have seen worse doubles in the play.
The twin brothers Rassomakhins, artists of the Center for Drama and Directing, play Hlestakov with impressive acrobatic skills, including wheelings on stage and shoulder acrobatics. In the finale, Hlestakov flies away from city N, pulled up by a rope, to the music of Alexandra Pakhmutova's "Goodbye, our dear Misha".
The Medvedev sisters, Galina and Polina, playing Marya Antonovna, the daughter of the mayor, create a visual "split personality" of the character, contributing to the overall confusion.
Petr Markin plays Osip, Hlestakov's servant, with a convincing performance. Vladimir Suvorov, as an old lackey in livery, adds a touch of classic charm to the production.
The city N officials' choir, consisting of Bobchinsky, Lяпкин-Тяпкиn, Dobchinsky, and school inspector Khlyopov, also performs in the play, adding a layer of authenticity to the production.
Sergei Stepanchenko plays Zemlyanika, the singer and inspector of charitable institutions, with a captivating performance. Two Lenkom actors, Sergei Stepantschenko and Ivan Agapov, and three actors from Sovremennik, Elena Yakovenko (ex), Sergei Garmaș (ex), and Vladimir Suvorov, are also part of the talented cast.
Good actors from Masterskaya 12 participate in "The Inspector" as extras or in small roles, singing, dancing, and portraying various characters such as high society, officials, wives, merchants, petitioners, and even gypsies with a bear.
Maxim Obrezkov has designed the scenography and costumes for the play, creating a classic setting in an old, "musty" theater. Pankov, who works more with a team than a collective, has invited actors from different troupes for each production, making "The Inspector" a truly collaborative effort.
The performance of "Der Inspektor" by Vladimir Pankov at the Masterskaya 12 theater takes place from September 12 to September 17, 2025. Don't miss this captivating adaptation of a classic play!
