The Federal Administrative Court has declared the advance hour regulation for teachers in Saxony-Anhalt invalid, due to insufficient legal authorization. This decision comes following a statement made by the state parliamentary faction of ALLIANCE 90/THE GREENS on September 5, 2025.

Susan Sziborra-Seidlitz, the spokesperson for education for the state parliamentary faction, was present at the statement. She reiterated the demand for the immediate abolition of the mandatory advance hour for teachers.

The advance hour, introduced in Saxony-Anhalt in 2023, required teachers to teach one additional hour each week. However, the ALLIANCE 90/THE GREENS believes that this regulation has been detrimental to the education system in the region.

The party argues that the advance hour has not reduced absenteeism as intended. Moreover, they claim that it has inflated the statistics of teaching staffing. Fewer people want to work as teachers in Saxony-Anhalt due to the advance hour, according to the ALLIANCE 90/THE GREENS.

The party advocates for positive incentives for teachers who can and want to work more, rather than coercion. They call for a reevaluation of the teaching profession in Saxony-Anhalt to attract more qualified individuals.

The current spokesperson for education of the state parliamentary group of ALLIANCE 90/THE GREENS in Saxony-Anhalt is Moritz Bretschneider. He was not present at the statement but supported the demand for the abolition of the mandatory advance hour.

The ALLIANCE 90/THE GREENS statement was accompanied by a photo of Susan Sziborra-Seidlitz taken by Jan-Christoph Elle. The photo depicts Sziborra-Seidlitz delivering the statement with a determined expression.

Teachers perceived the advance hour as a nuisance, adding to their workload without providing any significant benefits. The invalidation of the regulation by the Federal Administrative Court is expected to bring relief to the teaching community in Saxony-Anhalt.

The ALLIANCE 90/THE GREENS' call for a reevaluation of the teaching profession and the abolition of the mandatory advance hour is a significant step towards improving the education system in Saxony-Anhalt. It remains to be seen how the state government will respond to these demands.
