Emergency landing of a sports vehicle leaves two individuals critically hurt according to allegations
A single-engine sports plane crashed into a cornfield in Lohmar-Algert, Rhein-Sieg district, on August 11th at around 12:20 PM. The occupants of the plane, a 69-year-old and 70-year-old couple from Gladbeck, were seriously injured but not in life-threatening condition.
The crash site remains cordoned off as the Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation (BFU) has been called in to determine the exact cause of the accident. The BFU, based in Braunschweig, Germany, can directly depart from Braunschweig-Wolfsburg Airport for investigations.
According to the 69-year-old pilot, there were technical problems with the Cessna, causing an emergency landing in the cornfield. The plane took off from the Freiburg area, but the destination of the flight is currently unknown.
Remarkably, the couple had freed themselves before rescue services arrived. They were taken to nearby hospitals by helicopter for further treatment.
For further inquiries, contact the Rhein-Sieg District Police Headquarters Press Office at 02241/541-2222 or [email protected]. The accident site remains closed off while the BFU conducts its investigation.
