Emergency Personnel Arrives from the Fire Department

In a significant move towards enhancing emergency response, numerous fire departments in the region have joined the "Defi-Bridge through the Fire Department" project. The initiative, aimed at bridging the time until the arrival of the rescue service, has proven to be an indispensable part of the modern rescue system.

On June 10, 2025, the FF Oberglaim fire department became the latest addition to this life-saving project. The department, along with its counterparts in Adlkofen, Tiefenbach, Pörndorf, Wörth, Bodenkirchen, Furth, Essenbach, Jesendorf, Bruckberg, Gundlkofen, Baierbach, Attenhausen, Stollnried, Aham, Ergolding, Geisenhausen, Vilsheim, and Piflas, has been trained as first responders in cases of cardiac arrest and Defi-Bridge.

The training, which covered the safe use of defibrillators and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), is crucial. Every minute counts in sudden cardiac arrest, and these crucial minutes can determine whether a patient lives or dies. Jürgen König, the Medical Director of the Rescue Service, demonstrated how to handle the defibrillator during the training.

Firefighters, due to their proximity, usually arrive at the scene a few minutes before the paramedics and ambulance. This early response can significantly impact the patient's chances of survival. The Integrated Control Center dispatches an ambulance and a paramedic upon receiving an emergency call on 112.

The role of the fire department in providing initial care and using defibrillators has been demonstrated in various fire departments across the region. Some of these fire departments have successfully responded to incidents using the Defi-Bridge method.

The success of the project in various fire departments highlights its effectiveness in emergency situations. More fire departments are interested in following this example and joining the project. Sudden cardiac arrest is one of the most common causes of death in Germany and Europe, making the Defi-Bridge project a vital initiative in the region.

The goal of the training is to provide quick, valuable aid in emergencies in the FF Oberglaim community. As the project continues to expand, it is expected that more lives will be saved through the timely and effective response of fire departments equipped with the Defi-Bridge method.
