Emergency Rescue at FW Hannover: Firefighters Successfully Save Four Individuals from Peril

In the heart of Hannover's Herrenhausen district, a multi-family home was the scene of a dramatic incident on Friday morning. A fire broke out in the basement of the building, triggering a series of events that would see seven residents rescued and three hospitalised.

The Regional Control Centre Hannover was alerted to a smoke emission at 09:42. Two fire engines from the Professional Fire Brigade Hannover and the Hannover Rescue Service were swiftly dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, two breathing apparatus teams with hoses entered the building to fight the fire.

The "mass casualty incident" alert was triggered due to the high number of expected injuries. Three residents had to be transported to hospitals after initial treatment at the scene. Four residents, including an infant, were rescued via an aerial ladder due to heavy smoke in the staircase. Another resident managed to escape on their own.

The most dramatic moment came when a 64-year-old male resident was found and rescued by the fire brigade inside the burning building. This rescue took place in Recklinghausen-Ost on September 9, 2025.

Extensive ventilation measures were taken in the basement and staircase of the affected building to ensure the safety of the rescue teams. Burning debris in the basement was quickly located and extinguished.

The exact damage cannot be determined at this time. The police will investigate the cause of the fire, while the Hannover Fire Department, with around 50 personnel on-site, worked tirelessly to contain the blaze.
