On August 25, 2025, a residential fire broke out in Koitenhäger Landstraße. The fire was confirmed upon the arrival of the Greifswald fire department, with heavy smoke pouring out of the windows on the 1st floor of the multi-family home.

In response to the incident, eight emergency services personnel and six police officers were on the scene. Besides the Greifswald fire brigade, the police and a fire cause investigator ordered by the public prosecutor's office in Stralsund were involved in the evacuation and care measures for the affected residents of the residential building.

The fire was extinguished within minutes, thanks to the swift action of the 11 personnel from the Greifswald professional fire department and the 19 personnel from the volunteer fire department. The fire department successfully completed all necessary measures to ensure safety, and all remaining residents had left the building before their arrival, thanks to a caretaker.

Eleven people were treated by on-site emergency services, but only one person was taken to the University Hospital Greifswald with suspected smoke inhalation. The University Hospital Greifswald's involvement in the incident was limited to treating this individual.

The inspection of neighbouring apartments revealed no further damage, and all tenants were able to return to their homes once the measures were completed. No additional residents were found to be in danger or requiring assistance.

The cause of the fire remains unknown and is being investigated. The affected apartment is currently uninhabitable. Despite the incident, it is worth noting that the quick response and coordinated effort by the emergency services ensured the safety of all residents and minimised the impact of the fire.
