Fire at Multi-Family Building in Greifswald: A Quick Response and No Further Injuries

On Monday, August 25, 2025, a residential fire broke out in Koitenhäger Landstraße, Greifswald. A resident who noticed smoke developing in the affected apartment around 8:10 a.m. promptly alerted the emergency services.

The Greifswald Fire Department, along with 44 emergency services personnel, responded to the incident. The team included 11 professional firefighters, 19 volunteers, 8 paramedics, and 6 police officers.

Upon arrival, the fire was confirmed. Thankfully, all residents had evacuated the building before the fire department arrived, thanks to the quick actions of the caretaker. The affected apartment, unfortunately, is currently uninhabitable.

Heavy smoke was coming out of the 1st-floor windows of the building. However, the fire was extinguished within minutes, preventing any further damage to neighboring apartments. The inspection of these apartments revealed no further damage, and all tenants were able to return to their apartments after the measures were completed.

One person was transported to the University Hospital Greifswald with suspected smoke inhalation. The caretaker, who played a crucial role in the evacuation, was among those treated by emergency services but was not hospitalized. In total, 11 people, including the residents and the caretaker, were treated by emergency services.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the local fire department and police. The University Hospital Greifswald's patient count remains at one, with the individual receiving the necessary medical care. No further injuries were reported among the emergency services personnel.
