Emmy Awards 2025: A Night of Celebrating Excellence
The 77th Primetime Emmy Awards, set to air on September 14 at 8:00 ET on CBS and streaming on Paramount+, celebrated the best in television across a variety of categories. Here are some of the highlights from the night:
Jimmy Kimmel took home the award for Best Game Show Host for his work on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. Meanwhile, The Daily Show: Desi Lydic Foxsplains triumphed in the Best Short-Form Comedy, Drama, or Variety Series category.
In the documentary and non-fiction realm, Pee-wee Herman's autobiographical film, Pee-wee as Himself, shone brightly, winning Best Picture Editing, Best Directing, and three awards in total, including Best Documentary or Nonfiction Special. Elsewhere, 100 Foot Wave was awarded Best Documentary or Nonfiction Series.
The Traitors, a popular reality series, secured four awards, including Best Cinematography for a Reality Program, Best Picture Editing for a Structured Reality or Competition Program, and Best Reality Host for Alan Cumming.
Saturday Night Live (SNL) continued its dominance, winning Best Production Design, Best Lighting Design/Lighting Direction, Best Technical Direction and Camerawork, and Best Sound Mixing for a Variety Series or Special. SNL 50: The Anniversary Special, in particular, won six awards, including Best Hairstyling, Best Makeup, Best Writing, Best Directing, and Best Sound Mixing for a Variety Series or Special.
NBC's Saturday Night Live earned three technical awards in areas like set design, lighting, and sound. The 67th Annual Grammy Awards won Best Choreography for Variety or Reality Programming, while The Oscars won Best Production Design for a Variety Special.
Other notable winners included The Apple Music Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show Starring Kendrick Lamar for Best Music Direction, The Late Show With Stephen Colbert for Best Directing for a Variety Series, and Queer Eye for Best Structured Reality Program.
The Television Academy presented the Governors Award to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. Cunk on Life won Best Picture Editing for Variety Programming, and Chef's Table took home Best Music Composition for a Documentary Series or Special (Original Dramatic Score).
Conan O'Brien: The Kennedy Center Mark Twain Prize for American Humor won Best Variety Special (Pre-recorded), and Adolescence: The Making of Adolescence won Best Short-Form Nonfiction or Reality Series.
Lastly, Barack Obama won his third Best Narrator Emmy for his work on the Our Oceans documentary. Exceptional Merit in Documentary Filmmaking was given to Patrice: The Movie.
