The Suffolk Wildlife Trust is on a mission to secure a greener, wilder future for the natural world. This noble endeavour has been made possible, in part, by the generous donations from individuals who have chosen to leave a legacy gift to the Trust.

Leaving a legacy gift is not just for the rich and famous. It's for anyone who sees the spark of hope in the future and wants to make a difference. A form for leaving a legacy can be found on the Suffolk Wildlife Trust's legacy page, along with a 'Making your will' guide to provide step-by-step advice on naming a charity in a will.

One of the most significant impacts of legacy gifts has been in the purchase of every nature reserve by the Trust in recent years. The Martlesham Wilds Nature Reserve, for example, was founded through a trust established in a will by Reginald Newson. Today, Martlesham Wilds is home to a variety of plants, animals, and invertebrates, offering a sanctuary for wildlife.

Other reserves that have benefited from gifts in wills include Carlton Marshes, Captain's Wood, Black Bourn Valley, and Bradfield Woods. One such transformative project was made possible by the legacy gift of Pam & George Ford, which enabled the purchase of an organic farm on the banks of the River Deben, creating a new nature reserve.

Legacy gifts have also been used to fund projects that have significantly impacted the Trust's reserves. The Martlesham Wilds, for instance, was the recipient of such a gift, which funded its transformation into the thriving nature reserve it is today.

The Suffolk Wildlife Trust encourages supporters to consider leaving a gift in their will to the organization. Every penny given in a legacy to the Trust is wisely used and kept separate from day-to-day finances.

If you have any questions about leaving a legacy, Alex and Gina in the philanthropy team are ready to help via email. For more information about these reserves and the stories behind them, visit the Suffolk Wildlife Trust's Legacies Stories page.

As the musical Hamilton so eloquently puts it, "planting a seed in a garden you never get to see" is the essence of leaving a legacy. By leaving a gift in your will to the Suffolk Wildlife Trust, you are planting a seed for a greener, wilder future.
