Enemy forces launch assault on a thermal power production site in Kyiv's suburban region
Russian Attack on Kyiv Oblast's Power Generation Facility Causes Widespread Outages
Russia conducted a large-scale attack on a thermal power generation facility in Kyiv Oblast on the night of 7-8 September, leaving homes, hospitals, kindergartens, and schools without light and heat in the region.
The target of the attack was one of the power generation facilities in Kyiv Oblast, specifically the Trypillia Thermal Power Plant in Ukrainka. On the evening of September 8, 2021, Russian forces attacked the plant.
According to the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, the enemy in the attack clearly understood that it was striking critical civilian infrastructure. The Ministry stated that the goal of the attack was to cause hardship for Ukraine's civilian population.
The BBC News Russian reported the attacks based on Ukrainian sources, with the attacks also being reported by Ukrainian monitoring and news Telegram channels. On the night of 7-8 September, air defence responded to Russian drones in Kyiv Oblast.
Emergency workers and power engineers are currently working to deal with the aftermath of the attack on the Trypillia Thermal Power Plant. The Ministry of Energy of Ukraine will provide further updates on any changes to the energy supply.
It is important to note that the power generation facilities, electricity transmission and distribution systems, and gas infrastructure are not military targets. The Ukrainian special operation forces have reportedly landed in Crimea, with battles occurring, but these events are separate from the power plant attack.
The attacks have caused power outages in parts of Kyiv Oblast and some districts of Kyiv. The Ukrainian Ministry of Energy urges citizens to remain vigilant and follow emergency instructions during this difficult time.
This incident marks another escalation in the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, and the international community is closely watching the situation. The Ukrainian government has condemned the attacks and called for international support in restoring the power supply and rebuilding the damaged infrastructure.
As the situation continues to develop, the people of Ukraine are resilient and determined to maintain their independence and sovereignty. The world stands with Ukraine in solidarity and hopes for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
