Engineered Components Optimized for Maximum Efficiency
In the world of slurry systems, the total cost of ownership (TCO) of a pump extends far beyond the initial purchase price. According to Weir, energy consumption accounts for nearly 60% of a pump's TCO over its lifespan, while the capital cost of a pump and spare parts accounts for less than 10%.
Recognising the significance of energy consumption in a pump's lifecycle costs, Weir is committed to helping its customers reduce operating costs. The company works closely with its clients, conducting formal assessments to identify areas where costs can be reduced.
John West, Regional Manager Slurry Aftermarket at Weir, has registered an initiative to promote the use of original parts in slurry systems. He emphasises that using genuine parts enables customers to achieve higher equipment efficiency and extended lifespan.
To this end, Weir has extended its new technology WRT parts to the Envirotech Alpha range of pumps. These parts are precisely engineered to fit perfectly, boosting the equipment's production capabilities, supporting smooth operation, and maximising uptime.
The OEM part incorporates Weir's latest technological advancements, enhancing efficiency, optimising hydraulics, and extending wear life. Weir guarantees that its spare parts meet world-class design and manufacturing standards and fine-tunes their performance to help customers reduce energy consumption and operational costs.
The efficiency benefits of OEM parts are more significant in remote operations powered by diesel generators. In cases where grid energy is unavailable, the high cost of energy can be substantially lowered by ensuring all equipment operates at peak efficiency.
Collaboration with Weir also enhances the plant's skill base, contributing to improved equipment longevity and reliability. Weir provides a service technician for the installation of upgraded parts and delivers training on general maintenance.
Moreover, the environmental value of using high-quality OEM parts is further underscored by their impact on reducing carbon emissions. Power consumption directly correlates with carbon emissions, which mining companies are increasingly required to reduce to meet their corporate sustainability targets.
John West recommends the use of WRT parts for improved durability and performance. The WRT parts last twice as long, reduce power consumption, and deliver a higher head in specific applications. Using non-genuine replacement parts may overlook significant costs associated with emergency repairs and unplanned production downtime.
By focusing on energy efficiency and the use of original parts, Weir is helping its customers to enhance production efficiency, safety, and sustainability, whether they have dedicated reliability engineers or not.
