Engineering association PROCOMER takes part in UNESCO's World Engineering Day initiative in 2025
The UNESCO World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development (WED) 2025 has been officially launched, marking a significant step towards showcasing engineering's role in achieving the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The launch took place at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris on 4th March 2025. This year's event, themed "Shaping our sustainable future through engineering", aims to highlight the vital role of engineering in achieving the UN's 17 SDGs.
As an official partner, PROCOMER, the official agency for foreign direct investment attraction to Costa Rica, will play a crucial role in the 12-month WED campaign. Laura López, the CEO of PROCOMER, expressed Costa Rica's commitment to promoting engineering as a strategic discipline for sustainability and innovation.
The campaign, produced by the SJH Group, the official media partner and broadcaster for WED, will feature a multimedia hub dedicated to PROCOMER, hosting all campaign content on the WED website at www.worldengineeringday.net. Additionally, PROCOMER's WED content can be viewed at www.procomer.com.
WFEO, representing more than 30 million engineers across 100 countries, is also involved in the WED 2025 launch. Jacques de Mereuil, the Executive Director of the WFEO, expressed his excitement about the event, while Mustafa Shehu, the President of the WFEO, emphasised the importance of WED 2025 in putting engineering in the global spotlight and inspiring the next generation.
UNESCO World Engineering Day is a day proclaimed by the UNESCO General Conference and is jointly operated by UNESCO and the World Federation for Engineering Organisations (WFEO). This year's event promises to be a year-long series of events, films, articles, and news highlighting engineering achievements worldwide.
With the launch of WED 2025, the world is one step closer to recognising the pivotal role of engineering in shaping a sustainable future. The president (CEO) of PROCOMER, Laura López, looks forward to contributing to this global initiative.
