England Reinforcements: Jordan Cox Joins Squad for Ireland T20 Matches
England Announces T20I Squad for Upcoming Series Against Ireland
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has announced the squad for the upcoming T20I series against Ireland, set to take place between September 17 and 21.
Jacob Bethell, the all-rounder and captain of England's T20I squad, will lead the team in the upcoming series. He will be joined by fellow all-rounders Jamie Overton, Liam Dawson, Will Jacks, Rehan Ahmed, and Tom Hartley.
In a surprising move, Jordan Cox has been added to the squad as both a batter and a wicketkeeper. Cox, who previously played three ODIs and two T20Is for England, had an outstanding season in The Hundred, scoring 367 runs at a strike rate of 174. He batted at No.3 for the Oval Invincibles during their successful Hundred campaign.
Jos Buttler and Phil Salt will be the wicketkeepers in the squad, with Buttler serving as the regular keeper and Salt providing backup. Tom Banton is the only specialist batter in the squad, with all other batting options being all-rounders.
The squad currently consists of 14 members, with Cox becoming the 15th. Notably, Cox is not part of the squad for the T20I series against South Africa.
The announcement was made on September 3, giving the players ample time to prepare for the upcoming series. The T20Is against Ireland will be an exciting opportunity for the English team to showcase their skills and continue their winning streak.
