Enhanced Protection Measures Implemented
The city portal has announced changes to the cycling guidance on Hornschen Street, a busy thoroughfare connecting Neustadt and Johannettental. The adjustments aim to increase traffic safety at entrances and exits, particularly in response to an accident cluster involving cyclists with serious injuries over the past three years.
According to a press release from our city portal, the new cycling guidance is direction-based to avoid conflicts between cycling and pedestrian traffic. Cyclists may now only use the respective pedestrian and cycle paths in the direction of travel. In the opposite direction, the guidance is suspended, and the paths are exclusively available to pedestrians. Markings and signs have been adjusted to make the new regulation clearly recognizable.
The decision to adjust the cycling guidance was made unanimously by the road authority, the regional government, the police, and the Lippe district. Narrow side spaces near the Leopoldinum Gymnasium and restricted visibility at several exits are factors contributing to the need for the adjustment.
The city portal will be responsible for the continued monitoring and expansion of Hornschen Street.
