UAE-UK Delegation Strengthens Ties in Fight Against Financial Crime

High-level meetings between the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the United Kingdom (UK) took place in London from 2nd to 3rd September 2025, with a focus on combating illicit finance. The UAE-UK delegation, which included Hamid AlZaabi, the Secretary-General of the UAE's National Anti-Money Laundering Committee, attended these significant discussions.

During the visit, the delegation engaged with the private sector during a roundtable hosted by the UK-UAE Business Council. The partnership between the two nations emphasized the exchange of best practices and the importance of cross-border cooperation in safeguarding both nations and disrupting international criminal networks.

Greater operational collaboration was a key focus of the meetings. Enhanced dialogue across supervisory and judicial sectors was prioritized in the discussions, with the aim of strengthening cooperation against money laundering, terrorist financing, and criminal networks. Key ministries, law enforcement agencies, financial regulators, and customs authorities participated in the meetings.

The Cambridge International Symposium on Economic Crime, which was also attended by the UAE-UK delegation, provided a platform for further discussions. The symposium is a renowned event that brings together experts from around the world to address economic crime and share insights on effective strategies for its prevention and prosecution.

Dan Jarvis, the UK Minister of State for Security, underscored the importance of these discussions, emphasizing the role they play in increasing effectiveness while supporting trade ties. AlZaabi reaffirmed the UAE's and UK's commitment to combating illicit finance, stating that the talks would help to increase effectiveness while supporting trade ties.
