Enhancing Data Analysis Techniques: A Guide to Efficient Insights

In a recent webinar, sponsored by JMP, a leading provider of business analytics software and services, the focus was on the role of data analytics in the pharmaceutical industry. The event highlighted the work of the Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Technology Centre (PMTC) at the University of Limerick, Ireland, in supporting data analytics skills and knowledge.

The PMTC, founded by Marcus O'Mahony, a senior research fellow at the centre, has been at the forefront of data analytics in the pharmaceutical sector. O'Mahony, who also serves as a strategic research partner to several industry partners, has been instrumental in the development of the institution. In August 2025, the PMTC published the Good Practice Guide to Data Analytics, a comprehensive guide based on over 400 hours of interaction with industry.

Volker Kraft, a senior academic ambassador at JMP, also participated in the webinar. Kraft, with a background in electrical engineering and a keen interest in analytics, has used his expertise in customer advocacy.

The webinar delved into the importance of data-readiness in data analytics, emphasising its role in leading to greater process and system understanding. It covered a number of good practices in data management, data visualisation, and model development. However, it did not discuss specifics about real-world scientific exploration, digital chemistry, or process development speed-up.

SAS, a company that JMP is a part of since 1989, was also mentioned in the webinar. SAS is known for helping customers make better decisions faster through innovative solutions. The webinar served as a testament to the synergy between JMP and SAS in promoting data analytics in various industries, including pharmaceuticals.

Benjamin Valsler, the digital editor of a website magazine, moderated the webinar, ensuring a smooth flow of discussions and engaging the audience effectively. The event was a valuable resource for those interested in data analytics, offering insights into best practices and the role of data analytics in the pharmaceutical industry.
