Hazardous Waste Collection Mobile Coming to Grünberg on September 15
Residents of the Giessen district have the opportunity to dispose of their hazardous waste on September 15, 2025, at the central parking lot in Grünberg. The hazardous waste collection mobile will be available from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
This service is part of the twice-yearly tour of the hazardous waste mobile, as stated by Christian Zuckermann, waste department head of the Giessen district. The mobile unit travels to various locations in the district, including Grünberg, to provide a convenient and safe way for individuals to dispose of their hazardous waste.
Electrical devices up to the size of a toaster can be dropped off at the hazardous waste mobile. However, wall paint (dispersion paint) is not considered hazardous waste and will not be accepted. A list of all hazardous waste can be found on the Giessen District website.
Private individuals can dispose of up to 100 kilograms of hazardous waste free of charge. Examples of hazardous waste that can be dropped off include paints, batteries, adhesives, energy-saving lamps, fluorescent tubes, filled spray cans, plant protection products, expired medications, and e-cigarettes, including their packaging.
Business owners can also dispose of hazardous waste up to a maximum of 200 kg, free of charge, at the hazardous waste mobile unit on the first Wednesday of each month from 9:00 to 11:00 AM at the AWZ in Giessen.
The hazardous waste mobile service requires punctuality, as the schedule is tight and setup and teardown also take time. Waste may not be deposited at the location before the hazardous waste mobile is ready. For further information, visit the Landkreis Giessen website or contact the Waste Management Team at the Giessen County Waste Management Authority, phone: 0641 9390 -1995, email: [email protected].
This year, fire extinguishers will be accepted free of charge at the hazardous waste mobile. However, the service is not available for wall paint (dispersion paint).
Individuals who cannot attend the hazardous waste mobile in their immediate vicinity can visit it on Saturdays from 9 to 12 am at the entrance of the waste management center (AWZ) in Lahnstraße 220 in Giessen, or on the first Friday of the month from 3 to 5 pm at the festival grounds "Zur Helle" in Lauchert. The hazardous waste mobile stops at every larger village and all towns in the district.
The dates for the tour can be found on the Giessen District website or in the Giessen District Waste App. For safety reasons, hazardous waste must be delivered personally to the team of the hazardous waste mobile.
