Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) Secure Semi-Final Victory, Dream Girls Promote to Premier League
In a thrilling turn of events in the Kenyan basketball scene, the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) and the Dream Girls have made significant strides in their respective leagues.
In the men's semi-final play-offs, KPA defeated Equity Bank Hawks 63-53 in the third match, taking a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five series. The first quarter was closely contested, with KPA edging out Equity Bank Hawks 19-17. The second quarter saw a more even contest, with KPA scoring 16 points against Equity's 12, giving KPA a 35-29 half-time lead. KPA continued to dominate in the third quarter, winning it 14-8 to create a 12-point gap. Despite a strong comeback from Equity Bank Hawks in the final period, scoring 15 points, KPA held on to win the game.
If Equity Bank Hawks fail to win their remaining matches, they will lose their championship. On the other hand, a victory in the remaining matches would force them to win the decisive fifth match to advance to the final. Evergreen Betty Kananu led Equity Bank Hawks with 11 points, and Jemimah Knight scored 10. Ivorian star Alima Doumbia scored 15 points for KPA, while Yvonne Atieno added 13.
Meanwhile, in the Women's Division One, the Dream Girls secured their promotion to the Women's Premier League after beating Lady Titans 3-0 in the semi-final contest. The Dream Girls outplayed Lady Titans in the third quarter, stretching their lead to five points. Despite a close first half, the Dream Girls narrowed Lady Titans' lead to a single basket in the second quarter due to their spirited fight. The third quarter was a turning point, with the Dream Girls securing a 14-8 win to create a significant gap. The final period saw Lady Titans score 15 points against Dream Girls' 11, but it was not enough to overturn the deficit.
The Dream Girls' coach, Nelson, has extensive playing and coaching experience, including playing for the University of Portland and professional clubs in Sweden and England. Under his guidance, the Dream Girls have shown great resilience and skill, securing their well-deserved promotion to the Women's Premier League.
In Men's Division One, Snipers secured a 2-1 lead and only need to win today to secure their place in the final. Coastal Kings suffered a 41-58 loss to Snipers in their previous match.
