Erlkönig unveils refurbishments for 7 series and i7 models

The automotive world is abuzz with anticipation as BMW prepares to unveil the facelifted versions of the 7 Series and its electric counterpart, the i7, in mid-2025. Here's what we know so far about these luxury sedans.

While the exterior and interior designs of the facelifted models remain under wraps, it is expected that they may adopt the kidney design of the BMW 5er G60 in the front end. The headlights and taillights are heavily covered, hinting at a significant overhaul.

Under the hood, the BMW 7 Series facelift is expected to retain the broad range of powertrains offered by the current model. This includes the BMW 750e xDrive, which combines a 313 PS (230 kW) internal combustion engine with the E-drive to achieve a system output of 490 PS (360 kW) and a torque of 700 Nm.

The BMW i7 facelift, on the other hand, may offer further electric drivetrains under the BMW i brand. All i7 electric models will use a 101.7 kWh battery to achieve a maximum range of 560 km (M70 xDrive) to 615 km (xDrive60). The base model, the eDrive50, has a power output of 335 kW (455 PS) and a torque of 650 Nm. The top model, the BMW i7 M70 xDrive, will have a power output of 485 kW (660 PS) and a torque of 1100 Nm.

The xDrive60 variant of the i7 facelift will have a power output of 400 kW (544 PS) and a torque of 745 Nm. Both plug-in hybrids have an 18.7 kWh battery that provides an electric range of around 77 to 87 km. It's possible that the electric range of the facelift models will exceed 100 km.

The current 7 Series offers the 740d xDrive as its entry-level variant with a diesel engine of 286 PS (210 kW). The BMW M760e xDrive, with its 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine delivering 380 PS (280 kW), may be the top-tier option. The exhaust pipes visible on the camouflaged car indicate the presence of the BMW M760e xDrive.

Interestingly, a long version of the sedan that was discontinued in 2022 with the G70 is unlikely to return with the facelift. Instead, the focus seems to be on offering purely electric powertrains, as suggested by the expected absence of internal combustion engines in the i7 facelift.

Lastly, the interior of the BMW 7 Series and i7 facelift may receive a major infotainment update to bring the tech up to date. However, no specific changes have been revealed yet.

Stay tuned for more updates as BMW unveils the facelifted 7 Series and i7 in mid-2025.
