Ernest Hemingway's last surviving son, Patrick Hemingway, an acclaimed American author and wildlife conservationist, has sadly passed away at the age of 97.
Patrick Hemingway, the second son of the legendary author Ernest Hemingway, has passed away at the age of 93. Hemingway, who was born on June 28, 1928, in Kansas City, Missouri, spent his formative years in Cuba and Key West, Florida.
Hemingway began his career at the College of African Wildlife Management in Tanzania, where he trained the first African rangers for the newly formed country. His work in wildlife conservation and safari expeditions in British East Africa earned him global recognition.
After his father's passing, Hemingway managed his legacy from the early 1970s until his own passing. He edited and completed his late father's book, "True at First Light." Throughout his life, Hemingway attended Stanford University and Harvard University, with Harvard becoming his alma mater in 1950. He gained further recognition for his work with the FAO and his safaris, which brought him back to Africa numerous times.
Hemingway and his second wife, Carol, established the Patrick and Carol T. Hemingway Scholar-in-Residence at the John F. Kennedy Library in 2023. The couple also left a lasting legacy through their family, with Hemingway being survived by his daughter, Edwina Hemingway, four grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and multiple nieces and nephews.
