Convicted Psychiatrist Arrested in Colombia and Returned to Germany

A psychiatrist who went missing from a clinic in Erlangen, Bavaria, in August has been arrested in Colombia and returned to Germany. The psychiatrist, who was wanted for an unapproved absence from his leave, is a convicted offender responsible for a school shooting rampage in the Bavarian town of Ansbach in 2009.

The psychiatrist disappeared from the clinic on August 16, triggering extensive search measures in the background. An international arrest warrant was issued for the psychiatrist, and it was executed with the support of the Colombian police and a liaison officer of the Federal Criminal Police Office in Colombia.

The psychiatrist's whereabouts prior to being handed over on Sunday are not specified. The Bavarian State Ministry of the Interior and Justice, as well as the Bavarian Justice Minister Georg Eisenreich and the Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann, were involved in the search for the psychiatrist and the subsequent statement regarding his case.

The psychiatrist was originally convicted in 2010 for attempted murder in 47 cases and was ordered to indefinite psychiatric detention after the Ansbach attack involving axes, knives, and Molotov cocktails. He was sentenced to a multi-year prison term under juvenile law and subsequent detention in a psychiatric facility due to a severe mental personality disorder.

Upon his return to Germany, the psychiatrist is currently in the closed forensic department of the Psychiatry in Erlangen. The authorities did not provide further details on the fugitive's identity. The city of Munich, Bavaria, was not specified as a location relevant to the psychiatrist's case.

This development marks a significant turn in the case of the missing psychiatrist, and the authorities are now focusing on ensuring his continued detention and treatment. The public is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
