ESPN humorously dubbed as 'Junior version of Barstool' following incorporation of Bussin' with Boys feature by Dave Portnoy
Barstool Sports Partners with Fox Sports in Authentic and Bold Move
Dave Portnoy's sports media empire has joined forces with Fox Sports in a wide-ranging partnership, marking a significant step in the evolving multiplatform content strategy of the broadcasting giant.
The partnership, which was announced in July, is due to Portnoy's brand's ability to connect with a new generation of sports fans. Fox Sports is excited to welcome Portnoy and Barstool Sports to their family, as they aim to bring a fresh and authentic perspective to their sports coverage.
As part of the partnership, Dave Portnoy will host a show on "Big Noon Kickoff" every week, starting from Mondays. The show will have an office in Chicago, and other Barstool personalities will be incorporated into the programme.
Portnoy expressed his love for the "Bussin' With the Boys" hosts, Taylor Lewan and Will Compton, and his partnership with ESPN, which he described as "officially Barstool Jr.", has made headlines recently. However, it's not all smooth sailing for Portnoy, as he is currently feuding with Ohio State ahead of their heavyweight matchup against Texas on Saturday.
The feud is with Ohio State, Portnoy's beloved Michigan's bitter rival. Portnoy clarified that he has no problem with ESPN's on-air talent but despises the corporate executives at ESPN, whom he described as "snakes" and "corporate weasels". This disdain stems from the company canceling the show "Barstool Van Talk" in the fall of 2017.
The CEO and Executive Producer of Fox Sports, Eric Shanks, expressed his excitement about the partnership, stating that it aligns with their mission to deliver engaging and original content to sports fans. Shanks believes that Portnoy and Barstool Sports will bring a unique and authentic voice to their programming, and he is looking forward to working with them.
Portnoy will host an 8-10 daily show on Fox Sports 1, similar to a "Barstool Breakfast Show" or "Barstool Wake up". The show will undoubtedly bring a new level of energy and excitement to Fox Sports' morning lineup.
In a follow-up, Portnoy further clarified his comments, stating that he respects the talent at ESPN but feels that the corporate culture at the company is stifling and unsupportive of innovative and unconventional programming. Regardless, this partnership with Fox Sports is a significant step forward for Portnoy and Barstool Sports, and it will be interesting to see how they shake up the sports media landscape in the coming months.
