Established Garden Society in Chelsea District of Kensington and Chelsea, aims to address the environmental deficit often referred to as the 'Green Gap'
New Community Garden in North Kensington Unveiled
A new community garden is set to open in North Kensington, aiming to provide local residents with access to green space and tell stories of the area's past and present. The garden, led by Grow to Know, is the first ever RHS Community Chelsea garden and has received support from the Mayor of London and the Westway Trust.
Tayshan Hayden-Smith, the RHS ambassador for Young People and Communities, is the founder and creative director of Grow to Know. The garden design is inspired by the social effects of life under the Westway in 1970.
Repurposed materials will be used to create pathways and features in the garden, reflecting the ethos of sustainability and community spirit. The garden was announced following last year's 'Close the Green Gap' campaign, spearheaded by Grow to Know at Chelsea. The campaign highlighted the lack of green space available to residents in North Kensington.
Tayshan Hayden-Smith's background and role as the founder and creative director of Grow to Know are not widely known, but his passion for community engagement and green spaces is evident in the garden's design. The garden demonstrates the importance of community gardens during the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2024.
The garden will not only provide a beautiful and tranquil space for local residents to enjoy, but it will also serve as a testament to the power of community spirit and the transformative power of green spaces. The garden is set to open in the coming months, and it is sure to be a welcome addition to the North Kensington community.
Stay tuned for more updates on the progress of the garden and its impact on the local community.
