Established political parties MCA and MIC are not inexperienced and won't be easily swayed by PAS, according to Zambry.
In a series of recent developments, the MCA and MIC state chapters have expressed discontent with the current distribution of government positions within the political coalition, BN. This dissatisfaction has led to a push for change, with some chapters advocating for their parties to leave BN and join Perikatan Nasional (PN).
The president of MCA, Wee Ka Siong, announced in June that 191 MCA division assemblies would discuss the future and direction of the party, with proposals to be brought to the annual general meeting in October. This consultative approach is set to persist despite current challenges, as stated by Zambry, a prominent figure in MCA.
Zambry, along with other leaders, believes that BN, co-founded by Umno, MCA, and MIC, upholds two principles - mutual understanding among the races and moderation. These principles, he argues, are familiar ground for the parties, as they are not new to the political arena.
However, PN, which includes the political parties Bersatu, PAS, and Gerakan, is attempting to capitalise on this unhappiness. Tuan Ibrahim, PN's deputy president, extended an invitation to MCA and MIC to join the opposition bloc, a move that was initiated in response to pressure from several MCA and MIC state chapters.
This invitation, while met with concern from BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who believes it may not be in the best interest of MCA and MIC, has been met with a willingness to engage in discussions by MIC. MIC has expressed readiness to talk to any political party to ensure its survival and better serve the Indian community.
MCA and MIC's top leaders, however, have not yet discussed leaving BN with Zahid or tabled the matter for discussion at the BN Supreme Council meeting. BN, as a coalition that has always been prudent, consults with each other to overcome issues, and this issue is no exception.
Despite the challenges, Zambry remains optimistic about the future of BN, stating that this consultative approach will persist despite current challenges. It remains to be seen how this unfolds in the coming months as the parties navigate these complex political waters.
