EU Commission allocates ECU 5 million in funding for the said project.
The city of Brunswick is set to expand the Ricarda-Huch-Schule (RHS) gymnasium with a new five-story building, scheduled for completion in the school year 2026/2027. This significant investment in the city's future is being undertaken through a partnership model with HOCHTIEF PPP-Schulpartner Braunschweig GmbH.
The new school building will feature 20 general classrooms, specialized classrooms for art and music, and a modernized chemistry classroom. To cater to the needs of the community, an auditorium that can double as an external meeting place will be included. Additionally, a media library and, upon special request from the school, a climbing wall will be added.
The construction costs for this ambitious project are estimated to be approximately 30.1 million euros. The company responsible for the complete new construction of the school and outdoor facilities, including the installation of additional play equipment, is Bilfinger Tebodin.
The RHS currently has an annex at the Gliesmarode primary school. As the primary school is expected to grow to two or three grades, this annex will be discontinued. Once completed, the RHS will no longer use the classrooms currently used by the Gliesmarode primary school.
The topping-out ceremony for the RHS gymnasium extension was celebrated on Friday, August 15th, marking a significant milestone in the project. According to Mayor Dr. Thorsten Kornblum, this extension is an investment in the future of the city's children and community.
The RHS gymnasium extension is intended to provide space for education, creativity, and community. With its completion, the RHS will offer a more spacious and modern learning environment, further supporting the educational needs of its students.
