EU launched various programs to promote the adoption of EU's traffic safety regulations.

In a series of traffic incidents over the past few weeks, several drivers found themselves in legal trouble. Here are the key details:

At 17:55, a truck illegally turned from Karl-Jarres-Straße onto Düsseldorfstraße. The driver, a 43-year-old Polish national, was found to be driving without a valid license. To make matters worse, a blood test at the police headquarters revealed that the driver was over the limit for absolute driving impairment. The driver refused a drug test offered by the officers and was found to be in possession of an illegal butterfly knife. As a result, he now faces charges for driving without a license, driving under the influence, and violating the weapons law.

The owner of the truck, a 44-year-old individual, also faces a complaint for allowing an unlicensed driver to operate his vehicle.

In another incident, a patrol car crew checked a driver (25) of an e-scooter at Hochemmericher Markt at 18:40. The driver was suspected of being under the influence of drugs, and a subsequent investigation revealed that he was indeed driving under the influence of drugs. He now faces charges for driving under the influence and violating the drugs law.

The two drivers charged are Farhad N., an Afghan man accused of deliberately running into a demonstration in Munich in February 2024, resulting in two deaths and multiple injuries, and the Flixbus driver involved in the March 2024 fatal bus accident near Leipzig, charged with negligent homicide and bodily injury.

In addition to these incidents, the participating police officers intervened in 81 cases where the local permitted maximum speed was exceeded in areas around retirement homes, schools, and traffic-calmed zones. In total, they fined 213 offenses and initiated seven criminal proceedings. Two drivers received citations for excessive speed.

These incidents serve as a stark reminder of the importance of responsible driving and adhering to traffic laws. Driving under the influence, driving without a license, and possessing illegal weapons can lead to severe consequences, not only for the drivers themselves but also for others on the road. Let's all strive to make our roads safer for everyone.
