EU requests additional time for automakers

Dr. Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut, the German Economic and Labor Minister, has expressed concern over the cost of excessive bureaucracy on German companies. In a statement made on March 3, 2025, she revealed that bureaucratic burdens are estimated to cost German companies a staggering 146 billion euros annually.

To address this issue, Dr. Hoffmeister-Kraut has called for a change in the EU's economic policy, with 'Economy first' as the new motto. She emphasized the importance of restoring competitiveness and stabilizing and strengthening the economic location of Europe, Germany, and Baden-Württemberg.

In a bid to reduce the administrative burden on small and medium-sized enterprises, Dr. Hoffmeister-Kraut welcomed the EU's Omnibus Regulations, which aim to reduce the burden by 35 percent.

The Minister also expressed her support for EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen's plan to assist automobile manufacturers facing CO2 fleet limit penalties. However, no new details about her stance or the plan were provided.

For those seeking to communicate with the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labor and Tourism, a separate email address is available. The Press Office of the ministry can also be contacted via email, and the Contact Form can be accessed via an external link. Unfortunately, the ministry does not provide a physical mailing address.

On March 5, 2025, the EU presented an action plan for the automotive industry. Dr. Hoffmeister-Kraut stated that the plan should provide the industry with a new perspective. However, no new developments or updates regarding the plan have been disclosed.

In the meantime, the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labor and Tourism continues to work towards reducing bureaucratic burdens for companies, with the Minister emphasizing that the path of reduction must be consistently and swiftly continued.
