In a series of developments, the trial of Eduard Lintner, a former CSU MP and State Secretary, is ongoing. Lintner is accused of accepting money from Azerbaijan and bribing other mandate holders, as asserted by Konstantin von Notz, Deputy Parliamentary Group Chair.

The need for further necessary reforms in the realm of transparency and integrity has been resolutely emphasized, particularly in relation to the rules on party donations and the disclosure of conflicts of interest in federal ministries. The Ampel coalition has made it criminal to bribe members of parliament and unauthorized representation of interests by mandate holders.

The payments from Azerbaijan to MPs of CDU and CSU, though partially clarified, still have unresolved aspects. The aim is to fully clarify the circumstances, including what counter-performance the autocratic regime in Azerbaijan received. It is hoped that the circumstances will be fully clarified, and further necessary reforms will be resolutely pushed forward.

Many aspects of the corrupt influence, such as backgrounds, exact course, and initiation, remain unclear to this day. The need for further clarification in these areas is crucial for maintaining public trust in the political system.

The traffic light coalition has made significant progress in terms of transparency and lobbying regulation, according to LobbyControl's 2024 Lobby Report. An ongoing push for the creation of an independent body to monitor transparency and integrity rules for federal ministries and members of parliament is being pursued.

Konstantin von Notz and the Greens propose an independent authority called the "Unabhängige Transparenz- und Integritätsbehörde" (Independent Transparency and Integrity Authority) to oversee these rules. The creation of such a body is seen as a crucial step towards ensuring transparency and accountability in the political sphere.

Lintner's attitude towards seeking proximity to autocratic regimes, being used by them, and being rewarded for this is considered utterly unacceptable. His defense argues that his actions were a form of common lobbying, revealing a lack of awareness of wrongdoing.

The ongoing investigation serves as a reminder of the importance of upholding the highest standards of integrity and transparency in politics. As the trial continues, the public and the political community await further developments and the resolution of these complex issues.
