Europe's airport accommodations that deliver value
In a comprehensive survey spanning 17 European countries, from Finland to Greece and Portugal to Poland, the quality and affordability of airport hotels have been assessed. The study, which considered a total of 135 hotels surrounding the 30 busiest airports in Europe, found an average rating value of 4.91 out of 6 stars on HolidayCheck.
Some airports, such as Gran Canaria, stand out as special cases, with no hotel located within the defined radius. However, many airport hotels across Europe now offer a solid standard, as indicated by the average rating values.
In Alicante, travellers can enjoy a comfortable stay for just 78 euros, with an average rating of 4.78 stars. Germany impresses with high-quality airport hotels, with Munich and Düsseldorf achieving top scores of 5.5 and 5.3 stars, respectively, but at a higher price point (228 and 197 euros).
Spain, in particular, performs well in terms of price-performance ratio, with six airports in the top 30, including Palma de Mallorca and Gran Canaria. Palma de Mallorca hotels offer a good rating of 5.04 stars, but their room size is relatively small at 14.2 square metres, and they are priced at 145 euros.
Eastern Europe offers the best value for money, with Bucharest offering 4.8 stars and a price of 98 euros. Warsaw also impresses with a rating of 5.1 stars and a price of 116 euros.
Noteworthy mentions include the B&B Hotel Berlin-Airport and B&B Hotel Frankfurt-Airport, which offer very good price-performance ratios with modern, comfortable rooms and good amenities near the airports. The Park Inn by Radisson Frankfurt Airport is also praised for its convenient location and very good value, including comfortable rooms and transportation links to the airport and city.
However, some airports can be a financial trap for travellers. Rome, Dublin, and Palma de Mallorca perform disappointingly despite high costs, with guests rating hotels in Rome (4.17), Dublin (4.35), and Barcelona (4.65) significantly lower, indicating qualitative shortcomings.
Paris Charles de Gaulle, Amsterdam Schiphol, and Madrid-Barajas, the largest airports in Europe based on the number of passengers, did not disappoint. Paris Charles de Gaulle, with over 67 million flight passengers annually, recorded a respectable rating of 4.8 stars.
Those who are flexible can save significantly through strategic planning when booking airport hotels. By taking advantage of the best value for money offered in Eastern Europe and Spain, travellers can enhance their airport experience without breaking the bank.
