Europe's profound canyon, Breitachklamm Oberstdorf, put forward for recognition as a natural marvel in 2025

The beautiful Breitachklamm gorge in Germany is participating in the "Natural Wonder 2025" competition, organised by the Heinz-Sielmann-Stiftung. This stunning geotope, known as one of the most beautiful in Bavaria, is vying for the title of Europe's deepest gorge.

Situated in the heart of Germany, the Breitachklamm is a 1,600-meter long gorge that reaches a depth of 100 meters and narrows to just 2 meters at its narrowest point. The gorge attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors each year, and for good reason. Its breathtaking beauty is truly a sight to behold.

The Breitachklamm has been nominated by the Heinz-Sielmann-Stiftung and is competing against eight other German natural wonders for the coveted title. In the spirit of the Natural Wonder campaign, which aims to strengthen environmental awareness and protect nature, the Breitachklamm Association, the organisation behind the natural treasure, is proud to be part of this initiative.

The voting for the "Natural Wonder of the Year" contest runs until September 28, 2025, on the Heinz Sielmann Foundation website. Dominik Fritz, manager of the Breitachklamm, is hopeful for many online votes and encourages everyone to support the gorge.

From September 1 to 21, 2025, the Breitachklamm offers special tours, a children's program, and an additional exhibition on the topic of "Alpine Salamander". This is a great opportunity for visitors to learn more about the unique ecosystem of the Breitachklamm and the importance of preserving it.

In addition to the title, attractive prizes will be drawn among the participants of the contest. So, not only are you supporting the Breitachklamm and the cause of environmental protection, but you also stand a chance to win some exciting rewards.

On September 21, the nationwide "Day of Geotopes" takes place, with special tours and programs in the Breitachklamm. Make sure to mark your calendars and join the celebration. Let's help the Breitachklamm become Europe's deepest gorge and show our support for environmental conservation. Vote now!
