Evacuation of Supermarket and Fitness Studio due to Suspicion of Bomb Presence - Evacuation of supermarket and gym due to suspected explosive materials.
On Tuesday evening, a police response was initiated in the district of Grasbrunn, Munich, following a suspicious discovery at a local supermarket. Contrary to the title of the article, the incident did not occur at a gym, but at the supermarket itself.
An employee at the supermarket initially mistook a collection of e-scooter batteries, left without their casings, for a homemade pyrotechnic device. This initial misidentification led to the emergency services being called and the subsequent evacuation of the supermarket and a gym located above it.
Approximately 50 people were affected by the evacuation, according to the police. Traffic in the area was also closed off due to the incident. No injuries or damages were reported as a result of the incident.
Upon arrival, around 30 officers, including bomb disposal experts, were involved in the response. The suspicious object was identified as e-scooter batteries without their casings, and no actual explosive device was involved in the incident.
The batteries, intended for disposal, were left on the disposal table because the insertion slots were too small. Despite the initial scare, the incident serves as a reminder to properly dispose of e-scooter batteries to avoid any confusion or alarm.
The identity of the person who deposited the e-scooter batteries in the Grasbrunn supermarket restroom remains unknown. The police are continuing their investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
