The fifth Shrek film promises an exciting twist as a powerful spell sends Shrek and Donkey into the real world. The writers of the Puss in Boots spin-off have come up with a "funny story" that is sure to delight fans. Mike Myers, who voices both Donkey and Shrek, is currently working on the fifth Shrek film and will soon begin work on the Puss in Boots spin-off.
The focus of the fifth Shrek film will be on the adventures of Felicia, the main character's daughter, with Zendaya lending her voice to the character. The spin-off about Puss in Boots will delve into the adventures of his dragon wife and half-dragon, half-donkey kids.
The animated film "Shrek" was first released in 2001, and since then, Donkey has been a mainstay in the franchise, appearing in all films, video games, short films, and the animated series "Father of the Pride." Sadly, the real-life donkey who inspired the character, Perry, was euthanized in January 2025 due to an incurable illness.
No specific release dates have been announced for either the fifth Shrek film or the Puss in Boots or Donkey spin-offs. However, the premiere of "Puss in Boots: The Last Wish" is scheduled for September 10, 2025, on the Peacock streaming service, following its theatrical release on December 21 of the previous year.
