Every single vehicle undergoes thorough inspection at the Polish border without any exemptions given.
For over a month now, the Lithuanian-Polish border has been a hive of activity, with all vehicles undergoing rigorous checks. This tightened border control, which has been ongoing for some time, but the exact duration is not specified, has transformed the crossing experience into a lottery for drivers in the Baltic states.
Previously, border checks were selective, but the recent changes have seen everyone being scrutinised. The process involves a thorough inspection of cars' interiors, trunks, and documents. This includes checking for any signs of illegal immigration, as sixteen individuals suspected of transporting illegal immigrants have been detained at the border.
The Polish border protection authorities, reinforced since July 7, 2025, are responsible for these enhanced checks. The move is a response to rising migration pressure and aims to secure the border. Cooperation and joint measures to secure the border are also being discussed with Lithuanian and Latvian counterparts.
As a result of these tightened checks, Polish border guards have checked over 350,000 people at the border. However, the measures have not been without controversy. Residents of the Baltic States have been complaining about the delays and the increased scrutiny.
Despite the challenges, it is clear that the authorities are committed to maintaining the security of the border. With over 121 individuals denied entry at the border, it is evident that the checks are having an impact.
