"Examining the intense flow of this waterway"
In the small town of Bedburg-Oppendorf, a peaceful stream has transformed into a raging torrent overnight, causing widespread flooding. The height of the water in Oppendorf remains uncertain, but parts of the town have already been submerged.
Residents such as Andreas Franzen and his wife are among those who have been evacuated from the affected areas. The deputy chief of the Bedburg fire department, David Kunze, has been coordinating over 130 deployment sites since the morning, working tirelessly to manage the crisis.
The basements in Oppendorf are already flooded, and many roads in Bedburg are barely passable due to rain and mud. The evacuated residents will initially be accommodated in the canteen of a local school.
In the flooded "Resource Protection Settlement" in Bedburg-Kaster, only emergency vehicles can navigate the treacherous waters. Firefighters evacuated a house in this neighborhood in the morning. The "Resource Protection Settlement" is currently underwater.
The Technical Relief Agency is working to fill sandbags in Bedburg, hoping to contain the floodwaters and prevent further damage. Many fire departments from neighboring cities have been helping Bedburg since early morning.
Residents of Bedburg are hopeful that the heaviest rain is now over and that the situation will improve soon. Despite the challenging circumstances, the community remains resilient, working together to navigate this difficult time.
