Passau's Cycling Success: STADTRADELN 2025 Breaks Records

In a remarkable display of environmental consciousness and cycling enthusiasm, Passau, Germany, hosted the STADTRADELN action from June 23 to July 13, 2025. This nationwide campaign, aimed at promoting climate protection and better cycling infrastructure, saw a record-breaking 911 active cyclists participate, covering a staggering total of 211,329 kilometers.

The "Pedal Party Passau" team, led by Anna-Maria Kipphardt, emerged as the clear winners, covering an impressive 16,068 kilometers. The average distance covered by each participant in this team was an impressive 535.6 kilometers. The Auersperg-Gymnasium Freudenhain team came a close second in the "Strongest School Team" category, with 41 participants covering a total of 8,012 kilometers.

Enrico Herzig clinched the adult category for the most trips, with a total of 88 trips, while Johanna Huber, the youngest participant, took the under-10 category for the most trips with 37 trips. The "Zahnarztpraxis Dr. Linseisen" team had two cyclists in the top three of the individual cyclist category: Wolfgang Wagner (1,703 kilometers) and Johann Wimmer (1,659 kilometers). Walter Edbauer from the "Stoderer and friends" team cycled the most kilometers among individual cyclists, with a total of 2,175 kilometers.

Véronique Coiffet and Nadine Speckner came a close second in the adult category for the most trips, each with 81 trips. The "Klinikum Passau" team was the largest team with 54 active cyclists.

The STADTRADELN event in 2025 was not limited to Passau. Cities such as Frankfurt (Oder), Ismaning, and Magdeburg also participated. Frankfurt (Oder) started its event on September 8, 2025, while Ismaning held its event from June 29 to July 19, 2025, and Magdeburg held it from August 19 to September 8, 2025.

Mayor Jürgen Dupper honoured the most active groups and outstanding participants at a closing event on July 29, 2025. The estimated carbon dioxide savings from the STADTRADELN action is 34,657 kilograms, equating to nearly 35 tons of carbon dioxide. This significant reduction in carbon emissions underscores the impact of such events on promoting environmentally friendly transportation.
