Exhibition in Sochi unveiled, showcasing the Fight for the Caucasus Region
The Caucasus Biosphere Reserve is offering a unique opportunity for visitors to delve into history with its latest exhibition, "Echoes of War in the Reserve." Running until May 15, this thought-provoking display commemorates the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War and honours the battles of the Battle for Caucasus.
Located at the "Laura" visitor centre, the exhibition invites all to explore a collection of artifacts, many of which are quite rare. Among the exhibits are fragments of shells and grenades, a well-preserved Mosin rifle bayonet, and a crudely made prototype of modern "crampons" used for crossing ice.
The collection also includes personal items such as a mountain guide's "Edelweiss" breast pin and unused horseshoes from 1941, of German origin. These items, along with others, have been gathered from the reserve's archives, rare publications, and personal recollections of staff members.
During territory patrols and fieldwork over the years, the reserve's staff have made numerous discoveries that are now on display. These findings offer a tangible connection to the past, providing a poignant reminder of the events that unfolded in this region during wartime.
Visitors to the eco-information centre can view the "Echoes of War in the Reserve" exhibition and gain a deeper understanding of the history that has shaped the Caucasus. This is an opportunity not to be missed for those seeking a meaningful and educational experience.
