Expanding Fraunhofer Institute in Kaiserslautern: Pumpkin Showcase at the Horticultural Exhibition, FCK Advancing in Cup Matches at Greuther Fürth
September 1, 2025, marks the beginning of meteorological autumn in Kaiserslautern. Today's weather is cloudy with occasional sun, and the maximum temperature is expected to range between 19 to 22°C.
In the heart of the city, the Gartenschau Kaiserslautern is hosting an exciting event – the Pumpkin Exhibition. This themed event, titled "Fire," features over 450,000 pumpkins meticulously arranged into sculptures. The exhibition, part of the annual event held from September 1 to October 31, 2025, is centred around the theme of fire, with various figures such as a fire salamander on display.
Elsewhere in the city, sports enthusiasts had a lot to celebrate this week. The 1. FC Kaiserslautern (FCK) won their home game against SV Darmstadt 98 in extra time, with a final score of 3:1. The FCK women's team also had a stunning victory, winning their first match of the women's Landesliga with a score of 21:0 against FFC Ludwigshafen II. Meanwhile, SC Siegelbach emerged victorious in their women's Regionalliga match against Ober-Olm with a score of 1:0. Unfortunately, FC Homburg suffered a defeat in their Regionalliga Südwest match against FC-Astoria Walldorf, with a final score of 1:3.
Immigration has significantly benefited the labor market in Kaiserslautern over the past ten years. On the other hand, the Bundeswehr Zweibrücken had an open day this weekend, attracting thousands of visitors.
In other news, a construction site is being set up today on the state road between the A8 and Pirmasens-Winzeln. Over the weekend, a truck accident caused a partial closure of the A8 between Walshausen and Pirmasens-Winzeln.
The Pumpkin Exhibition is taking place at the Kaiserslautern Garden Show, and a new blog for the Westpfalz region is available for the new week. A group of disadvantaged FCK fans from the fan club Nobby's Devil designed their first own choreography for a FCK game.
Lastly, the 1st Christopher Street Day (CSD) in Kaiserslautern took place this weekend, attracting around 800 people. The Fraunhofer Institute for Software Engineering in Kaiserslautern is expanding, with a new building under construction.
