Expanding into Rheumatology and Dermatology Services by MSG

The Medical Specialist Group (MSG) on Guernsey is set to welcome two new permanent consultants, Dr Michael Clynes and Dr Alice Walker, next month.

Dr Michael Clynes, a seasoned rheumatologist, will commence his role as the permanent consultant rheumatologist at the MSG on 22 September. Dr Clynes has been a visiting rheumatologist for the past four years and specializes in conditions affecting joints, muscles, and the immune system. His arrival marks the replacement of the previous arrangement of rheumatologists employed by Health & Social Care visiting the island.

Approximately 30 new patients per month are referred to rheumatology at the MSG, and with Dr Clynes' expertise, a permanent consultant rheumatologist will now be available for Guernsey patients.

Simultaneously, on September 8, Dr Alice Walker will start working at the MSG as the new consultant dermatologist. Dr Walker will take over from Dr Graham Reilly, who provided the dermatology service on behalf of HSC for many years. A dermatology service is being established at the MSG, focusing on conditions like eczema, psoriasis, and skin cancers.

Approximately 100 new patients per month are referred to dermatology at the MSG. The Committee for Health and Social Care has transferred over the funding for the dermatology and rheumatology posts to the MSG, ensuring continuity of care for patients.

Dr Steve Evans, chair of MSG, is pleased to take on the dermatology and rheumatology services. He looks forward to welcoming Dr Clynes and Dr Walker to the island next month and is excited about the enhanced services they will bring to the MSG and the Guernsey community.
