Expansion of Dietzenbach Forest with 4,000 new trees planted
In a continued effort to reforest and revitalize local ecosystems, Waldfreunde gGmbH, in partnership with EVO and the city of Dietzenbach, is organizing a tree planting event on November 30, 2024. This initiative is a continuation of a project that began in 2019, with over 4,000 trees already planted.
The event, scheduled from 9:30 AM to 2:30 PM, will take place in a Dietzenbach forest. Participants are encouraged to bring their own spades and gloves, but tools will also be available for loan. Registration via the Waldfreunde website is required.
This tree planting action is aimed at reforesting in response to the 2019 storm that destroyed 88 hectares of forest in the Eulerwald. The goal is to create a stable ecosystem for various animal species. Professional guidance will be provided by Hessenforst and Waldfreunde.
Jürgen Graf, Managing Director of Waldfreunde gGmbH, has emphasized the importance of forests for climate, biodiversity, and recreation. Graf stated that the tree planting action in Dietzenbach makes a valuable contribution to environmental and nature protection, and strengthens the sense of community in the region.
In a related development, EVO plans to expand its power plant in Heusenstamm into a regional and climate-neutral heat supply center, using only sustainable heat sources. As part of this commitment, EVO's tree planting action in Dietzenbach is part of a promise to reforest an area equivalent to the 5 hectares of Offenbach city forest cleared for its power plant expansion.
The trees to be planted will include 13 different species such as red oak, hornbeam, hazel, osier, and sloe. Refreshments like potato soup, Kreppel, coffee, and juice will be available for participants to enjoy.
As the first part of EVO's larger reforestation promise, the tree planting event in Dietzenbach is a significant step towards restoring the local environment and fostering a sense of community involvement. For more information and to register for the event, visit the Waldfreunde website.
