Nintendo has unveiled a new trailer for the upcoming game, "Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury," set to launch on Feb. 12 for the Nintendo Switch family of systems.
The highly anticipated expansion to the original Super Mario 3D World game brings several exciting additions. These include online and local co-op multiplayer for up to four players, and two new amiibo figures, Cat Mario and Cat Peach, which offer in-game enhancements.
Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury will be available in stores, Nintendo eShop on Nintendo Switch, and on Nintendo.com on Feb. 12 at a suggested retail price of $59.99.
In addition to the regular 35-Player Battle mode, the Special Battle each week will feature courses with additional opportunities to battle with Bowser. Individual players who defeat at least one Bowser during the event period will be eligible to receive 350 My Nintendo Platinum Points.
Nintendo has also announced the Super Mario Bros. 35 World Count Challenge, a special event for the Super Mario Bros. 35 game. During this event, players from all over the world can work together to complete goals during a set period of time. The first challenge aims to defeat 3.5 million Bowsers during the event period, which runs from 11 p.m. PT on Jan. 18 to 10:59 p.m. PT on Jan. 25.
To participate in the Super Mario Bros. 35 World Count Challenge and qualify for the Platinum Points, players must opt in to send their play reports to Nintendo. A Nintendo Account is required to receive and redeem My Nintendo points.
Nintendo Switch Online membership (sold separately) and a Nintendo Account are required for online features in Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury. Pre-purchase for Feb. 12 launch is now available.
Moreover, Nintendo has introduced the new Nintendo Switch - Mario Red & Blue Edition system. This limited-edition console features red Joy-Con controllers with blue straps, a blue Joy-Con grip, a red Nintendo Switch dock, a red Nintendo Switch system, a stylized Mario Red & Blue Edition Carrying Case, and a screen protector. The Mario Red & Blue Edition system will be available from Feb. 12 at a suggested retail price of $299.99.
The game features a new form for Mario, a fearsome feline one, due to the gargantuan and out-of-control Bowser. Bowser and Bowser Jr. also have significant roles in the game, and their amiibo figures will have special activations in Bowser's Fury.
Finally, a Nintendo Switch Online membership offers access to the competitive online battle game, Super Mario Bros. 35. The Super Mario Bros. 35 World Count Challenge will be held three times from January to March. Additional accessories may be required for multiplayer mode in Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury (sold separately).
As always, Nintendo Switch features parental controls that allow adults to manage the content their children can access. The release date for the new Super Mario game expansion, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, is not yet confirmed beyond Feb. 12, 2022.
