Exploring the Campus Recruitment Process at Meghnad Saha Institute of Technology: A Personal Account

The Meghnad Saha Institute of Technology (MSIT) has been the stepping stone for many aspiring engineers, providing them with industry-oriented training and global career opportunities. However, recent concerns have been raised about the college's campus placement process, with students expressing frustration over a perceived lack of fairness and transparency.

At the heart of the issue lies the shortlisting process, which has been criticised for its lack of clarity. The list of shortlisted candidates is not always communicated, and when it is, there is no explanation about why some students who meet all eligibility criteria are not included. This lack of transparency has caused frustration among students who feel they have been unfairly denied opportunities.

The eligibility criteria for shortlisting at MSIT include having 60% marks and no active backlogs. Yet, there are perceptions that the shortlisting process may be biased towards certain students or groups. Observations and conversations with peers suggest that candidates who are close to certain faculty members in the Training and Placement Cell (TPC) may receive preference.

The TPC, led by faculty such as Prof. Dr. Aniruddha Dey from the Department of Computer Science & Engineering (IoT), plays a crucial role in preparing students for the placement process. However, it is essential that the TPC's practices are fair and transparent to ensure equal opportunity for all students.

To address these concerns, the college should take steps to review its placement process. This includes communicating the reasons for excluding students who meet eligibility criteria from the shortlist and ensuring that every candidate who meets the company's eligibility criteria is given a chance to participate in the placement process.

Moreover, there is a need for the college to promote equal opportunity in the placement process. This could involve implementing consistent requirements for resume submissions, ensuring that all candidates are evaluated based on their merit, and providing clear guidelines for the shortlisting process.

By addressing these concerns, MSIT can ensure that its campus placement process is fair, transparent, and equitable, providing all students with the opportunity to secure a successful career in their chosen field.
