Exposed Allegations: Adeyanju Accused of Blackmail, Denies Bribe Claims Regarding Peter Obi Meeting – Journalist Speaks Out
In a statement released in Abuja on Friday, journalist Ike Abonyi has spoken out against allegations made by Nigerian activist and politician Deji Adeyanju regarding a meeting between the two in the run-up to the 2023 elections.
Abonyi, who was present during the meeting, has stated that he will not remain silent and allow lies to thrive regarding the encounter. He has expressed his disapproval of Adeyanju's negative post about Peter Obi, the presidential candidate, accepting an appointment from the APC Presidential Candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
Abonyi, a well-respected journalist, author, and columnist, was surprised by the public accusations made by Adeyanju. He considers Adeyanju a friend and was shocked to read Adeyanju's claim that Peter Obi had invested Anambra state money in his family business, a statement that Abonyi did not hear during the meeting.
The journalist has encouraged Adeyanju to withdraw his posts based on facts, rather than allowing the situation to escalate publicly. However, Adeyanju has yet to respond to Abonyi's posts or calls regarding the disputed claims.
Abonyi has also stated that during the meeting, Peter Obi never made an offer of money to Adeyanju for his support. He expressed his concern that Adeyanju's support for political candidates is being influenced by "funny blackmails."
Adeyanju, initially a supporter of Peter Obi in the 2023 presidential election, withdrew his support due to disagreements over Obi's leadership style and political approach. Despite this, Adeyanju has publicly declared Obi as the best candidate and encouraged him to leave the PDP to seek his ambition on another platform.
Abonyi, as a journalist and Christian, does not need to be biased towards Peter Obi to address issues of facts and falsehood. He believes that Deji Adeyanju is free to change his support for Peter Obi based on his own beliefs, but should not base it on untruths.
This development comes as a surprise to many, as the two have been known to have a good relationship in the past. The dispute between them serves as a reminder to all involved in the political process to uphold truth and integrity in their actions and statements.
