Fairtrade status maintained in Dormagen as they receive recertification from the city
Dormagen, a city in North Rhine-Westphalia, has once again been recognised as a Fairtrade Town. This year, the city participated in the "Fairbruary" action month, highlighting various initiatives that promote fair trade.
The "Fairtrade Towns" campaign, active in 36 countries, has over 2,000 certified cities, including 914 municipalities in Germany. Dormagen first received this title in 2017 and has since continued to actively shape and expand its role in the movement.
The city has implemented numerous actions and events around fair trade in recent years. One such initiative is the annual sustainability market, where the environmental team educates the public about the importance of fair production conditions worldwide.
Dr. Martin Brans, Technical Deputy Mayor of Dormagen's city administration, stated that sustainable and fair trading is a lived practice in the city. He added that the city will continue to actively shape and expand its role as a Fairtrade Town in the future.
Regular meetings of the steering group ensure that new projects are initiated and existing ones are further developed. These efforts have led to the successful recertification by Fairtrade Germany e.V., recognising Dormagen's continuous commitment to fair trade.

Dormagen is not alone in its commitment to fair trade. Several other German cities, such as Memmingen, Idstein, Bochum, Oldenburg, Nordhausen, and Gütersloh, have also been awarded the title of Fairtrade Town.
The "Fairtrade Towns" campaign aims to raise awareness about the importance of fair trade and to encourage communities to support producers in developing countries by choosing Fairtrade products. By participating in this campaign, Dormagen continues to demonstrate its dedication to ethical trading practices and sustainable development.
