"Fake "Bars for Rares" Scheme Exposed by Expert"
In a recent episode of the popular German show "Bares für Rares", a father-daughter duo brought an intriguing item for appraisal. The object, which originated from Mannheim, Germany, had a mysterious air about it, leaving both the hosts and the experts puzzled.
At first glance, the device seemed to be an antique, possibly from the 70s or 80s. However, it was soon discovered that this was not an authentic antique, but a replica. Horst Lichter, one of the hosts, initially thought the device could be a musical instrument, a steam engine, or a cigar lighter. Sven Deutschmanek, the "Bares für Rares" expert, suspected it was an inhaler.
The estimated price for such a device was 30 to 50 euros. However, Markus Wildhagen, the father, paid over the estimated price, 80 euros, hoping to make a profit. Unfortunately for him, the dealers quickly spotted that the device was a replica, and the negotiation was interrupted.
The dealers, who were quick to identify the replica, did not need Horst Lichter's request to enlighten the father-daughter duo. Sonja Dern, the daughter, was unsure about the exact identity of the device. She found the item in the basement of a pharmacy where she works.
Despite being a replica, the device was considered a rarity and a decorative item, not a carbon spray device or a nebulizer. It was not a common everyday item, adding to its allure. The device's appearance was not consistent with a 100-year-old item, which further fueled the speculation about its origins.
Despite the disappointment of not being able to sell the replica, the father-daughter duo were still allowed into the dealer's room, providing them with a unique opportunity to learn more about the world of rare items. The experience served as a valuable lesson in the importance of authenticity when dealing with antiques.
