In the world of Lego Ideas, a fan-designed tribute to Apple's iconic iMac G3 is making waves. The model, developed by designer Fuma Terai, is a 700-piece scale replica of the original iMac G3, released in 1998.

The model, finished in the original computer's Bondi Blue colour, is a faithful recreation of the blobby desktop's shape and vibe. The bright plastic backside is created using a space fleet's worth of transparent blue windshield elements, giving it an authentic look.

Inside the transparent shell, a cathode ray tube and a circuit board, designed digitally using only real Lego elements, can be found. The model also includes custom-designed stickers to replicate the Mac OS splash screen and iMac logo. A brick-built keyboard and mouse complete the setup.

Terai, who has six previous models that have reached the 10,000-vote mark on the LEGO Ideas website, is no stranger to success. His model of the '80s film Gremlins' mascot, Gizmo, has even been turned into an official Lego set.

Currently, the Lego iMac G3 project is sitting at a vote count that is likely to reach the 10,000-vote target due to its widespread promotion across the techy corners of the web. With 319 days remaining, voting for this fan-designed model can be done on the Lego Ideas website.

However, even if the model reaches 10,000 total votes and obtains the approval of Lego's legal team, Apple's cooperation would still be necessary for the model to become an official Lego set. Historically, obtaining Apple's cooperation for a Lego set would be a long shot.

Nevertheless, the Lego iMac G3 design only uses already-existing Lego elements, increasing its chances of getting far in voting on the Lego Ideas website. If you're a fan of Apple's history or just love Lego creations, consider casting your vote for this unique model.
