In a shocking turn of events, an investigation has been opened by the Public Ministry following an incident during the Primeira Liga game between Sporting and FC Porto. The classic match, held at Sporting's home ground, took place in the 61st minute of the game.
Unfortunately, the celebration of FC Porto's first goal of the game led to the glass of the A15 north stand giving way, resulting in 17 injuries. The President of Sporting, Frederico Varandas, has since condemned the attitudes of his own fans and those of Benfica, referring to the incident as a "barbaric attack on FC Porto fans."
The game, which ended with a score of 2-1 in favour of FC Porto, marked the first defeat of the season for Sporting in the Primeira Liga. This is not the first time the two teams have met this season, as they previously faced off in the Futsal Supercup, held in Gondomar, where Benfica emerged victorious.
In response to the incidents, Varandas stated, "There is no place for savages in sports venues." The investigating judge examining the incidents is João Frederico. The fourth round classic, a visit by FC Porto to Sporting, did not result in any injuries or an investigation.
