Armani's Farewell: Worldwide Store Closures Mark Respect for Legendary Designer
Giorgio Armani, the iconic Italian fashion designer, passed away last Thursday at the age of 91. In a poignant gesture of respect, all Armani group stores worldwide closed on September 8, 2025, as a tribute to his lifetime achievements.
The multinational corporation, which operates over 600 boutiques globally, was silent on this day. A sign outside one store on Düsseldorf's Königsallee read, "In memory of Mr. Armani, all group stores will be closed today, September 8, 2025." The store in Düsseldorf's prestigious shopping district was one of many that closed its doors.
The private funeral was held at a church in Rivalta, near Armani's birthplace of Piacenza in northern Italy. The ceremony was attended by Armani's life and business partner, Leo Dell'Orco, his sister, nieces, and nephew. Notable attendees included designers Donatella Versace and Ludovico Einaudi, as well as Fiat heir John Elkann.
Over the weekend, thousands paid their respects at Armani's coffin, which was displayed at the Armani headquarters in Milan. The coffin was brought to the church in the afternoon, and some bystanders gathered along the street, applauding.
Besides close friends and colleagues, Armani's funeral was also attended by his family. His sister, nieces, and nephew were present, as well as his business partner, Leo Dell'Orco. The occasion was a testament to the impact Armani had on the fashion industry and the lives of those around him.
