Father in Arkansas faces accusations of murder for slaying the supposed abuser of his daughter. Wife claims he rescued their child from harm.

In Lonoke County, Arkansas, a dramatic turn of events unfolded on October 8, 2022, when 14-year-old Heather Spencer went missing. Her family, who reside on a farm near Cabot, Arkansas, and homeschool their children, were left in a state of panic.

Heather's disappearance was followed by a series of shocking revelations. Three months prior, the family learned their daughter had been sexually assaulted by Michael Fosler, a 67-year-old man she met at a family friend's home. Fosler was facing 43 felony counts, including internet stalking of a child, sexual assault, sexual indecency with a child, and possession of child pornography.

As the days turned into weeks, the family's worst fears were confirmed when they discovered a stuffed animal in Heather's bedroom. Heather's mother, Heather Spencer, discovered that Fosler was still in contact with their daughter after finding a Cash App payment from Fosler to Heather and her cousin. Despite the felony charges and a no-contact order, Fosler was released with no supervision, causing the family's outrage.

In a desperate attempt to save his daughter, Aaron Spencer spotted Fosler's truck with Heather in the passenger's seat and pursued the vehicle. The ensuing car accident led to a confrontation between Spencer and Fosler. Spencer fired at Fosler until his weapon was empty, then jumped on him and pistol-whipped him. He then took Heather out of the truck, reloaded his Glock 19 Gen4, and called 911.

Fosler was found dead at the scene with multiple gunshot wounds. Prosecutors charged Aaron Spencer with second-degree murder with a gun enhancement penalty. The Lonoke County Prosecuting Attorney's Office did not respond to CNN's requests for comment.

The case has sparked outrage on social media, with some viewing Spencer as a hero for protecting his daughter. Several petitions have been started, including one signed by over 350,000 people, calling for the charges against Spencer to be dropped. A state gun rights group has set up a defense fund for Spencer's legal costs, and the community has created an online fundraiser for his expenses.

The outcome of Spencer's trial, scheduled for January 2026, will depend on whether jurors believe his use of deadly force was justified to protect his daughter. Spencer has pleaded not guilty.

Aaron Spencer, a veteran of the 82nd Airborne who was deployed to Iraq as a paratrooper in the late 2000s, is known in his community as the "animal whisperer" due to his bond with animals. He is devoted to his family and enjoys taking his children fishing and spending time with them.

Despite the challenges they have faced, the Spencers remain steadfast in their pursuit of justice for Heather. They have put their daughter in therapy and are determined to see the case through. The community continues to rally behind them, offering support and prayers in this difficult time.
